WOC-ly OUTING CLUB CALENDAR 02/18- 02/24

Hello WOC family!  Come check out some of the awesome outdoors events we
have going on this week.   All events are open to WOC members. For more
information on how to join WOC, ask your trip leader or head on down to the
equipment room.

Announcements:

Calling all WOOLF enthusiasts!!  WOOLF 2019 is underway but we need YOUR
help to make it happen! We need instructors for WOOLF leaders and staff to
help the program run smooth! The WOOLF instructor/staff application is now
open through Friday March 1st, please apply!

Join the WOC board! Applications are now open to join the WOC executive
board  Whether you’ve gone on every sunrise hike or have never done
anything with WOC before, if you are passionate about helping people get
outside, this is a great opportunity to help shape the outing community at
Williams. Applications are due March 1, and can be found attached to this
email or outside the WOC office 2nd floor Paresky. First years are
especially encouraged to apply, though all non-graduating students may

WOC Equipment Room:   The Equipment Room is open M-Th 12:30 -1:30 and 12 -2
on Friday.  We have tons of gear to borrow! WOC memberships may be
purchased as may Mt. Day or Bamboo T-shirts. Email

Williamstown Trail Crew: Trail Crew Intern (2 paid positions) The
Williamstown Trail Crew spends two months building and maintaining hiking
trails here in Williamstown. We're outside, all day, every day: chopping
trees, clearing and blazing trails, digging in the dirt. We often do light
carpentry (building bridges, decks, signs), so you'll learn some basic
woodworking, too.

- Eight weeks

- June 10 - August 2

- Student on-campus housing available (w/ purchase of a meal plan)

Responsibilities:

Build and clear waterbars, clear branches/blowdowns, build turnpikes and
check-steps, cut new trail tread, install and repair culverts, chop/remove
fallen trees, build trail signs and kiosks, sharpen and maintain tools,
blaze trails, light carpentry.

All interns will receive on-the-job training in tool use and safety.

Experience with trail maintenance, gardening, yard work and carpentry is
helpful. A love for the outdoors is essential!

WOC activities:

Wednesday:

Pool Rolling Session 7:30 - 9:00

Come by the indoor pool to learn the basics of kayaking! Learn the basics
of kayaking including forward paddle strokes, turning a kayak with and
without a paddle, and rolling a full 360 degrees. Open to people of any or
no experience. Contact Duncan, [log in to unmask] if you have questions!

Friday:

Weekly Sunrise Hike (catch the sunrise at 6:38am) - to the summit of Pine
Cobble, Meet on Paresky steps at 6:00 AM.  Dress for the weather, trail
will be snowy, icy and possibly wet!  Bring a filled water bottle,
headlamp/flashlight and a cup for hot drinks.  Return to campus by 8:30AM.

Saturday:

Learn to Skin Uphill then ski down at the Mt. Greylock Ski Club 10:30am -
3:30pm  Sign up to learn how to skin uphill and backcountry ski with a
telemark setup Or your own AT ski setup.   All skill levels welcome but
downhill skiing experience necessary. Please contact Aidan,

Sunday:

A winter ascent to the roof of Massachusetts!!  Join Abbey and Scott on a
trek up the Roaring brook trail to the Hopper trail to the summit of Mt.
Greylock - 6 miles roundtrip, 2,000’ change of elevation!  Leave campus at
9:30AM and returning at 3:30PM. Contact Abbey at [log in to unmask] to
