Dear Outing Club community,

The WOC is currently looking for applicants for its Executive Board for the 2013-2014 school year. The WOC Board serves as Williams’ main conduit to the outdoors, coordinating Mountain Day and Winter Carnival, as well as leading various trips such as canoeing, hiking, kayaking, fly-fishing, climbing, sledding, skiing, snowboarding, backpacking and many others. A digital copy of the application has been attached to this email, and hard copies may be picked up outside the WOC office door in Paresky and are due back at the WOC office door by 4:00 Friday, April 12. Applicants will be contacted to schedule a student interview once applications are received.

Applicants to the Board must possess significant experience in the outdoors, the time necessary to make a significant contribution to the Club, and qualify for the WOC Mountain Guide certification (or be willing to get it) in order to lead overnight trips. Additionally, applicants should consider how they might serve a specific department or specialization.

If you decide not to apply for the board, or if there is not a position you are interested in, there are other ways to get involved with club leadership. All members are welcome at weekly meetings and can provide valuable input to the Board about the club. Leaders certified through the Mountain Guide program can lead WOC sponsored trips on weekends, reading periods, or longer breaks. Anybody with expertise can get paid to teach PE classes after a training session. Non-board help is sought every year for special events including Mountain Day, Winter Carnival, and the Climbing Competition.

We also welcome and train interested people to become climbing wall instructor/monitors and ropes course facilitators. Email a current board member for more information on any of these positions.

For further information, feel free to contact director Scott Lewis (slewis or x2317), assistant director Dave Ackerson (da1 or x2317), student executive board leaders Noah Wentzel (nlw4) and Gabe Lewis (gml1), or any current Board members listed on our website at http://www.woc.williams.edu.

Sincerely,

Noah Wentzel
WOC President
