WOC-ly OUTING CLUB CALENDAR

Hello WOC family! Come check out some of the awesome outdoor events we have going on this week. All events are open to the Williams College community.

 

Announcements

WOC J-TERM Winter PE -  Downhill Ski, Snowboard, Telemark, Nordic ski, Snowshoe Instructors wanted.  Nordic & Snowshoe instructors must be available to teach at least one day - Tu, wed or Th from 12:45-4:15pm.  Downhill, Snowboard, telemark instructors must be available to teach Mon, Tu, Wed or Th (preferably at least two of those days a week)  from  12:45-5pm.

 

 *you get paid, receive 1 PE credit, reduced ski passes AND it’s a wonderful resume builder!   IF interested please come by the WOC office, 2nd floor Pareksy to pick up an application outside the office door - return by Friday, Oct. 28! 


EPIC Sunrise 9 mile Hike up and down Mt. Greylock FRIDAY, October 28.  Leaving at 4AM  return to campus by 8:45AM.  Sign up under EPIC SUNRISE on this form !

 

Sign up for the Winter study LEAD 18 - SOLO First Responder Wilderness Emergency care course.  This is a continuous 9 day, 72 hour comprehensive hands on in-depth look at the standards and skills of dealing with wilderness based medical emergencies. The course runs 9 consecutive days straight from 9AM–5PM. The instructor will be provided by SOLO (Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities). Cost is $450. If interested please submit a statement of purpose by Oct. 21 to [log in to unmask], explaining why you want to take the course and hope to gain from the experience.

We want your feedback on trips! Have you recently gone on a trip and want to give us feedback on COVID-19 precautions and how things went? Fill out our feedback form after your trip so we know how we’re doing!

Monday:

Climbing Wall open!  There will be open climbing from 8 - 10 pm at the Nate Lowe Climbing Wall in the Towne Field House.  No experience necessary.  All equipment provided. 

 

Tuesday:

Climbing Wall open!  There will be open climbing from 8 - 10 pm at the Nate Lowe Climbing Wall in the Towne Field House.  No experience necessary.  All equipment provided. 

 

Wednesday:

Climbing Wall open!  There will be open climbing from 8 - 10 pm at the Nate Lowe Climbing Wall in the Towne Field House.  No experience necessary.  All equipment provided. 

 

Thursday:

Kayak Rolling Session 7:00pm - 8:30 Come by the college pool to learn the basics of rolling a kayak!  Easy to get the 180 degree part but a little more challenging to get the 360 degree part where you come back up for air!!  Bring a bathing suit and enthusiasm!!  - no sign up….”rolling admissions”!!

 

Climbing Wall open!  Non cis-male climbing from 8 - 9 pm!  From 9 - 10 there will be open climbing at the Nate Lowe Climbing Wall. No experience necessary.  All equipment provided.  

 

Friday:

Weekly sunrise hike– a “wake up” and down trek on Pine Cobble.** Meet on Paresky steps at 5:55 AM for a dawn good sunrise hike - (sunrise at 7:13AM). This is a 3 mile hike round trip, one thousand foot elevation gain to get your blood flowing and endorphins coursing through your veins!! Dress for the weather -  and good footwear for a trail that will be muddy, wet and always rocky!  Bring a headlamp/flashlight (it’s a REAL sunrise hike, dark in the woods for sure!!)  filled water bottle and a cup for hot drinks.  Return to campus by 8:30AM. Saturday:

Canoeing the Housatonic River Lenox, MA  Leaving campus at 10AM and returning by 3:30pm.  A great fall paddle on a beautiful gentle flowing river - come see the last of the  Fall colors along the ancient river banks!  Please sign up on this form (folks who have not previously had the opportunity to canoe with WOC this Fall will be prioritized due to limited space!) and email Sam ([log in to unmask]) with any questions!

 

Intro to Geocaching: Geocaching is an outdoor hobby where you look for hidden treasures based on their GPS coordinates! Once you find a geocache, you log it and trade items for future finders. On this trip, we will leave campus to search for geocaches in the local area. Dress in long sleeves, bring a pen to log the cache, and maybe bring some fun items to trade!
