Hello WOC family! Come check out some of the awesome outdoor events we have going on this week. All events are open to the Williams College community.

 

Announcements

MOUNTAIN DAY????  Coming on a beautiful Fall friday!!  see attached schedule - Bells will ring at 7AM the day of to declare the day Mountain Day!!!!!


OVERLAND looking for leaders!! INFO SESSION WEDNESDAY, 10/12 at 7PM.   With 38 years of experience, Overland offers 45 itineraries for students, 10 days of training for leaders, and excellent support throughout the summer. Overland leaders inspire students through outdoor challenges -- hike a mountain, bike a continent, serve a community. Discover how beautiful, how full of promise the world is. Learn more about paid summer leadership positions!!  Luke Costley and Hayden Gillooly will be hosting an information session at our office on the third floor of 10 Walden Street (above the Williams Bookstore) on Wednesday, October 12th from 7-8pm. We also hold virtual info sessions for anyone who wants to learn more about leading.

Sign up for the Winter study LEAD 18 - SOLO First Responder Wilderness Emergency care course.  This is a continuous 9 day, 72 hour comprehensive hands on in-depth look at the standards and skills of dealing with wilderness based medical emergencies. The course runs 9 consecutive days straight from 9AM–5PM. The instructor will be provided by SOLO (Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities). Cost is $450. If interested please submit a statement of purpose by Oct. 21 to [log in to unmask], explaining why you want to take the course and hope to gain from the experience.

We want your feedback on trips! Have you recently gone on a trip and want to give us feedback on COVID-19 precautions and how things went? Fill out our feedback form after your trip so we know how we’re doing!

Tuesday:

Climbing Wall open!  There will be open climbing from 8 - 10 pm at the Nate Lowe Climbing Wall in the Towne Field House.  No experience necessary.  All equipment provided.

VISTA x WOC!! As part of Latine/x Heritage Month, WOC is collaborating with VISTA to honor and highlight environmental activist Berta Cáceres. Please join us on a relaxing, 2-mile round-trip hike on the Cascade Trail where we will enjoy nature and each other’s company. Once we arrive at the waterfall, we will enjoy a short presentation on Cáceres and snacks! We will be leaving campus around 4:15 and will return around 6:30. Thursday:

Climbing Wall closed for Instructor Monitor training (see info above if interested in becoming an IM!)  

 

Friday:

IF not mt. day - Weekly sunrise hike– a “wake up” and down trek on Pine Cobble.** Meet on Paresky steps at 6:10 AM for a dawn good sunrise hike - (sunrise at 7:04AM). This is a 3 mile hike round trip, one thousand foot elevation gain to get your blood flowing and endorphins coursing through your veins!! Dress for the weather -  and good footwear for a trail that will be muddy, wet and always rocky!  Bring a filled water bottle and a cup for hot drinks.  Return to campus by 9:00AM. Saturday:

Hopkins Forest Fall Festival --11:00-2:00PM

Come out and celebrate the season at the annual HMF Fall festival -- plenty of fun for all including cross-cut saw, hammerschlagen, canopy walkway, cider pressing and apple butter brewing, pumpkins, music and local/seasonal refreshments.  Vans shuttle every 20 minutes from Paresky/Park Street.  See you there.
