Hello WOC family! Come check out some of the awesome outdoor events we have going on this week. All events are open to the Williams College community.

Mountain Day t-shirt on sale! 

We will be selling this year’s Mountain Day t-shirt in Paresky during lunch, from 11:30-1:30. T-shirts will cost $10 and cash or venmo is accepted. T-shirts will only be sold before Mountain Day (first possible Mountain Day is 10/7!), so get your shirts now! See the shirt below featuring art by Elsa Martin on the front and Seamus Connor on the back. 

 

 

Sign up for the Accessibility Van for Mountain Day!

Mountain Day season is almost upon us! If you need accessible transport to either Stone Hill or Stoney Ledge (ie you would not otherwise be able to hike/walk to these locations but would still like to attend), please fill out this form to reserve a spot for the van to either or both locations. Space is limited. Vans will leave from campus, and will drive directly to the festivities. Once on Stone Hill and Stony Ledge, there will be donuts, cider, scenic vistas, and various music performances. Interested in becoming an Instructor Monitor at the Nate Lowe Climbing Wall?  There will be a 2 session training for anyone interested on October 6 & 13 from 8 - 10 PM.  The 2 session training will be brief but mandatory.  In addition to the training sessions, all new IMs are required to work with an experienced IM team for two sessions and pass a practical examination before being hired and co-leading their own session. The WOC Equipment Room will be open M – Th, 12:30 —1:30 PM, &  F 12–2 pm.

Thursday:

Mohawk Trail boulder exploring

Join us on a trip to the Mohawk Trail state forest to look at rocks! We’ll go on a short hike while exploring a possible climbing area for future adventures. The forest is ~35min away, so we’ll meet at the Equipment Room at 4pm and return to campus by 7pm. Sign-up on this form here. and email Isabel ([log in to unmask]) with any questions!

 

Climbing Wall open!  Non cis-male climbing from 8 - 9 pm!  From 9 - 10 there will be open climbing at the Nate Lowe Climbing Wall. No experience necessary.  All equipment provided.  

 

Friday:

Bee Hill Hike

Kickstart your weekend with a buzzy and scenic hike to Bee Hill along the RRR trail with great views of Greylock + the fall colors 🍁. It is going to be SUNNY and 64 ☀️(unless Williamstown weather decides otherwise)! This hike is approximately 6 miles round trip starting from campus with about 1000 feet of elevation gain (for more info look at our trip descriptions!). Meet at Paresky steps at 4:00 PM and return by around 7 PM. Bring shoes for hiking and a water bottle! Sign up here. Saturday:

Learn how to Fly-cast Interested in fly fishing but don't know where to start? Join us from 2:00-4:00 PM at the Towne Field House for a fly casting clinic. We will be going over how to set up a fly rod and teaching a few basic casts necessary for you to hit the waters. Everyone, whether you are a complete beginner or someone who'd like to sharpen their skills, is welcomed. The number of rod + reel combos is limited, so please make sure to sign up, Sign up , if you won't be bringing your own gear. Email Darren at [log in to unmask] if you have any questions.

 

Sunday:

Make art outside at Natural Bridge State Park!

In need of a creative outlet? Come join us for a couple hours on Sunday afternoon to draw, paint, write, read, or gallivant by the only natural white marble arch in North America. We’ll supply some markers and pens, but you can also bring your own art supplies—they can be as simple as a pencil and paper or some watercolor materials. Meet at Paresky steps at 1:00pm on Sunday, and we’ll return by 3:00pm. Please sign up here and email [log in to unmask] with any questions!
