Announcements

Wilderness First Aid course - WOC will be offering a 2 day WFA (Wilderness First Aid) course  Sunday, May 1 and Sunday May 8 from 9AM - 3:30PM. Cost is $60 for the class - please contact [log in to unmask] to reserve a spot and if you have any questions,  by Thursday, April 15.

Are you interested in getting more involved with community service on campus? Join Lehman Community Engagement for a day of service on Saturday, April 16 and help out with volunteer projects in Williamstown and Adams. Activities are open to all class years, and everyone who attends will have access to a $6/person tab at Tunnel City on Monday 4/18. Sign up for activities here!

The WOC Equipment Room will be open by APPOINTMENT ONLY.                 Hours are M – Th, 12—1:30 PM, &  F 12–2 pm. The Equipment Room is open to all WOC members. Please go to this appointment schedule to sign up.

Monday:

Climbing Wall open!  There will be open climbing from 8 - 10 pm at the Nate Lowe Climbing Wall in the Towne Field House.  No experience necessary.  All equipment provided.  This is for WOC members only and memberships are available at the wall.

Star Tipping! Excited by the night sky? A fan of spinning around in circles? Come join Joanie, Malcolm, and Abby for star tipping on Poker Flats from 8:30 to no later than 9 or 9:15pm. We’ll be checking out the beautiful stars and letting out any late-night stress by goofing off outside (weather-permitting). If interested, sign up here and email Abby ([log in to unmask]) with any questions. We’ll meet at Paresky steps at 8:30pm and bring a flashlight if you have one. 

 

Wednesday:

Climbing Wall open!  There will be open climbing from 8 - 10 pm at the Nate Lowe Climbing Wall in the Towne Field House.  No experience necessary.  All equipment provided.  This is for WOC members only and memberships are available at the wall. 

 

Thursday:

Dog Walk Behind the Clark! Craving interaction with a cute canine friend? Meet on Paresky steps at 11:10AM for a relaxing late morning dog walk. Come along to socialize and take a break between classes even if you don't want to walk the dog yourself. It should be a short hour long walk behind the Clark with minimal hill climbing and lots of sculptures to ponder. We’ll be back with ample time for lunch before 1:00 pm classes. Bring a raincoat and boots/shoes that can get muddy in case it's wet outside. sign up on this form and email [log in to unmask] with any questions!!    

 

Climbing Wall open!  Non cis-male climbing from 8 - 9 pm!  From 9 - 10 all WOC members are welcome and memberships are available at the wall.  No experience necessary.  All equipment provided.   Please enter through the doors on the south (Weston Field) side and leave your shoes on the plastic tarp at the door.

 

Friday:

Weekly sunrise hike– a “wake up” and down trek on Pine Cobble. Meet on Paresky steps at 6:00 AM for a dawn good sunrise hike at 6:11AM. This is a 3 mile hike round trip, one thousand foot elevation gain to get your blood flowing and endorphins coursing through your veins!! Dress for the weather -  winter hat/gloves needed for warmth at the summit, good footwear for a trail that will be very muddy, wet and always rocky!  Bring a filled water bottle and a cup for hot drinks.  Return to campus by 8:30AM. Cascade Falls Hike! Warmer weather is upon us! Start off your weekend with a short hike (2 miles round trip) and a waterfall. Who doesn’t love waterfalls? The water level should be pretty high and the hike is a leisurely one, all experience levels absolutely welcome! Footwear that you don’t mind getting dirty for the muddy trail is a must, bring some water and dress for the weather! Sunset at the Hairpin Turn - Come on a short 15-ish minute drive in the WOC van to see a beautiful Berkshires sunset at the Hairpin Turn in North Adams! Sunset is at 7:35 pm, so let’s meet on Paresky steps to walk to the van at 6:45 pm. Feel free to bring snacks, tea, water, etc. We will be back to campus around 8:00 pm. There is limited seating in the van, so please sign up using this form! Email Li ([log in to unmask]) with any questions.

 

Full moon hike  Come join us for a Full Moon walk along the Taconic Crest Trail.  Starts at 8pm, back by 10-10:30ish.  This 5+ mile round trip will traverse the ridge to an overlook with outstanding views.  The weather will be chilly and possibly windy at night up there so layers of warm clothing, sturdy footwear, a headlamp or flashlight, and possibly a winter hat and gloves are essential.  Make an appointment with the equipment room (see above) to get any gear needed! Saturday: 

Hopkins Forest Amphibian Fest! It’s amphibian season at Hopkins and frogs and salamanders are out and about in the vernal pools! Join Hopkins Forest Educator Darren Wang for a chance to explore the pools and learn more about animals that only appear this time of the year! This is a great chance to learn more about Hopkins’ wildlife and get some fresh air and enjoy the beginning of spring. WOC will be shuttling groups to Hopkins Forest and one group will depart behind Paresky (on Park St. side) at 11 AM, a second group at 11:45 AM, and a third group at 12:30 PM! Sunday:  

Pancake Brunch Hike! We will hike up to Berlin Mountain via the Taconic Crest Trail and bring some camping stoves/pancake mix to make some lovely pancakes for brunch at the top! The hike is approximately 6 miles round trip with 1,250 ft elevation gain, so expect some steep hills. We will meet on Paresky steps at 9 am. Return to campus by 1 pm.
