Hello WOC family! Come check out some of the awesome outdoor events we have going on this week. All events are open to the Williams College community.

 

Announcements

 

Winter Carnival is coming SOON! Feb 17th-19th!

If you haven’t already heard about the most anticipated event of the season by this point, what are you doing?! Winter Carnival, a three day wintery outdoors-focused extravaganza is going to be here before you know it. Check out the schedule and fliers for the Jamboree, Trike Race, and Mt. Prospect below. If you missed tabling, stop by the WOC office to grab a free sticker and button! Email jsc6, mab10, and ads7 with questions. The most updated version of the schedule will be on the WOC website. 


Davis Center Social Change Film Series At 7:30 pm at Images on Tuesday 2/15, the Davis Center, in collaboration with WOC, will be screening An American Ascent, a film about the first African-American expedition to climb Denali, North America’s highest peak. Following the film, there will be a talkback with Dragonsky, a queer Black woman who recently completed the AT and plans to become the second Black woman to acheive a triple crown (thru-hiking the AT, PCT, and CDT).

 

Davis Center Lunch and Learn Series From 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm in Jenness House Living Room on Wednesday 2/16, the Davis Center will be hosting a talk by Dragonsky about thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2021.


 

The WOC Equipment Room will be open by APPOINTMENT ONLY.     Hours are M  - Th 12 - 1:30 PM CLOSED FRIDAY. The Equipment Room is open to all WOC members.  Please go to this appointment schedule to sign up.  

 Activities

Monday:

Climbing Wall open!  There will be open climbing from 8 - 10 pm at the Nate Lowe Climbing Wall in the Towne Field House.  No experience necessary.  All equipment provided.  This is for WOC members only and memberships are available at the wall.  Please enter through the doors on the south (Weston Field) side and leave your shoes on the plastic tarp at the door.

 

Tuesday:

Walk to Stone Hill Go on a nice, easy walk to Stone Hill and back (~1 hour total) to break up your Tuesday afternoon. We will be leaving from Resky steps at 1 pm! Contact Audrey ([log in to unmask]) with any questions! 

 

Climbing Wall open!  There will be open climbing from 8 - 10 pm at the Nate Lowe Climbing Wall in the Towne Field House.  No experience necessary.  All equipment provided.  This is for WOC members only and memberships are available at the wall.  Please enter through the doors on the south (Weston Field) side and leave your shoes on the plastic tarp at the door.

 

Wednesday:

Microspiking at the Hoosac Range! The snow is leaving, but the ice is more stubborn. Come with me on this 6 mile hike with moderate elevation gain to show the ice who’s boss by repeatedly stomping on it with your spiked feet! If we’re lucky, we may also come across a certain small, green guy from Star Wars. Layers and good hiking boots are required, but can be borrowed from the WOC equipment room. Meet at Resky steps at 1 and sign up  here. Email Justyn ([log in to unmask]) if you have any questions! Also a reminder that we will be taking a van and masks are required in vans.

 

Stone Hill Walk Super excited for Winter Carnival? Want to get outside a day early? Come talk a quick walk up Stone Hill and enjoy the wonderful view! Leaving from Resky Steps at 4:10pm. Return to campus by 5:30pm. Sign up here and contact Abby ([log in to unmask]) with any questions. 

 

Non cis-male climbing from 8 - 9 pm!  From 9 - 10 all WOC members are welcome and memberships are available at the wall.  No experience necessary.  All equipment provided. Please enter through the doors on the south (Weston Field) side and leave your shoes on the plastic tarp at the door.

 

Thursday:

Winter Carnival Day 1 Winter Carnival is finally here! Kick WC off by enjoying the themed dinner in all dining halls, Winter Carnival trivia at the Log, and a WCFM DJed Open Skate at the Lansing Chapman rink! See full schedule above or on @wocstagram on instagram. 

 

Friday:

Winter Carnival Day 2 Enjoy the second day of Winter Carnival! The main feature today is the trip to Mt Prospect where there will be equipment for xc skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, and more. There will also be a grilled lunch for all, music, and good vibes all around. 

Friday also features Learn to Skate/Open Skate at Lansing Chapman rink, Snowsbee (outdoor snowy frisbee) at the Farley-Lamb field, the Zambezi Dance Party at the ‘62 Center, RLT Sync or Swim,  a huge performance in Paresky Auditorium featuring 12 music groups, and finally the Combo Za Zalentine show.

Saturday: 

Winter Carnival Day 3 Soak up the last day of Winter Carnival with a slew of events! Open Skate at Lansing Chapman rink, Flying Ace Trike Race at Paresky Lawn, Snoopy’s Costume Dog Fair outside of South Science, the Zambezi Dance Party at the ‘62 Center, a Luminary Walk and Camp Fire starting at Paresky, the Davis Center Dabke Dance Performance by Al Asala at Goodrich, Blacklight Climbing at the climbing wall, and the BSU Afrodisiac party at Currier Ballroom.  See full schedule above or on @wocstagram on instagram.
