WOC OUTING CLUB Announcements/programs


Announcements:


Looking for things to do over our long winter break? Enjoy the outdoors? Interested in social justice? Interested in getting more involved with the outing club? WOC will be offering a student-led workshop about Anti-Racism in the Outdoors in January! 


What: A four week online program focusing on expanding knowledge about the history of racism in the outdoors, conversing about anti-racist practices in outdoor spaces, and collectively brainstorming about how outdoor communities, including WOC, can best enact such practices.  

When: 4 weeks in January, with two meetings per week (scheduled based on participant availability). Time commitment will be approximately 4 hours per week, including ~2 hours of independent reading/reflection and ~2 hours of group meeting.

Who: Open to all Williams students (not limited to the WOC list serve, so if you know someone who might be interested but didn’t get this email please encourage them to sign up!)

Where: Zoom!

Deer Hunting Season in our area has beGUN (rifle/shotgun)


NY: Nov. 21- Dec. 13

MA: Nov. 30 - Dec. 12 (no hunting on sundays in MA)

*If going into the woods - Be aware and A-wear bright colors!! HOPKINS FOREST CLOSED during MA hunting.


*For students ON CAMPUS and being COVID tested weekly:


THE NATE LOWE CLIMBING WALL IS OPEN 

Beginning Monday 11/30 through Thursday 12/17 the climbing wall will be open again from 6 - 8 pm on Monday and from 3 - 5 pm on Thursday.  Both times will include roped climbing as well as bouldering.   The sessions will be limited to 6 climbers. To sign up for a session contact Dave at [log in to unmask] There will be a waiting list and we hope to accommodate everyone who would like to climb while filling all 6 slots every night.  


The WOC Equipment Room will be open Mondays  from 12 - 4 pm by appointment only.  Open to all members of the Williams community.    You need to email [log in to unmask]  prior to 6 pm on the day before you would like to borrow the gear in order to reserve equipment, an equipment room manager will respond with details and an appointment time.   Loan period will be 1 week.

Activities:

Woc Weekly calendar will now be sent specifically to a list of students currently residing on campus to publicize weekly programming (it will also be posted on our website: https://woc.williams.edu )

ALL WOC TRIPS ARE BY RESERVATION ONLY. YOU MUST SIGN UP FOR THE TRIP IN ORDER TO GO.

Weekly sunrise hike of the semester “wake up” and down Pine Cobble - witness the  sunrise at 7:07AM. Meet on Paresky steps at 5:45 AM!!  Dress for the weather -  bring extra layers) footwear for a trail that can be wet, muddy and always rocky! Headlamps are highly recommended (I’ll have extras if needed!) bring a filled water bottle and a cup for hot drinks.  Return to campus by 8:45AM.   Please Contact Scott, [log in to unmask] to reserve a spot!
