WOC-ly OUTING CLUB CALENDAR 3/9 - 3/15


Hello WOC family!  Come check out some of the awesome outdoors events we have going on this week.   All events are open to WOC members. For more information on how to join WOC, ask your trip leader or head on down to the equipment room.


Announcements:

 

MAPLEFEST in Hopkins Forest, Saturday March 14th 11:00-2:00

Come out and celebrate the the maple sugaring season:  visit an active sugarhouse, tap a tree, take part in a taste-test, eat pancakes, sugar-on-snow and more.  Van rides from Paresky (Park Street) on the half hour.

 

The Nate Lowe Climbing Wall:  The wall is open Tu - Th 8 -10. On Thursday the wall is open to people who don’t identify as cisgender male from 8 -9 and welcomes everyone from 9 -10.  There are lots of new routes and boulder problems for you to try. Come get sendy with us!

*The climbing wall will be closed 3/9 & 3/16 for IM training.

 

WOC Equipment Room:   The Equipment Room will be open M - Th 12:30 -1:30 & F from 12 -2 pm.  Email: [log in to unmask]

 

WOC activities:

Monday:

Full Moon Gazing 8:00PM!!  It will be a full moon Monday night and we will be meeting at the tables at the front of Paresky to go have a look. Take a quick break from your work and walk down to Poker Flats with us to look at the moon. Contact Sam, [log in to unmask] if you have any questions!

 

Tuesday: 

 

Wednesday:

Midweek Walk! We’ll take a quick hour or so long walk somewhere near campus to refresh your senses and take advantage of the beautiful spring weather. Meet at 2 pm by the WOC office, and contact Charlotte, [log in to unmask], with any questions!

 

 

Thursday: 

Books in Bloom! It’s back for a second take; celebrate spring and come to Chapin Special Collections at 1 PM for a look at rare and beautiful nature-related books. Email [log in to unmask] with questions.  


Kayak Rolling Session 7:30 - 9:00 Come by the indoor pool to learn the basics of kayaking! Learn the basics of kayaking including forward paddle strokes and rolling a full 360 degrees. Open to people of any or no experience. Contact Jared, [log in to unmask] if you have questions!

 

Friday: 

REAL SUNRISE.. yes, with daylight savings time we truly will see the  Sun rise in the east to splash its warming light on Pine Cobble.  Meet on Paresky steps at 6:00 AM.  Dress for the weather, have a headlamp or flashlight, hiking boots/shoes for muddy & wet trail,  filled water bottle and a cup for hot drinks. Return to campus by 8:30AM. Contact Scott, [log in to unmask] if you have questions.

 

Waterfall Hike!! Come along for a quick hike to the Cascades at the base of Mt. Greylock. We will leave campus at 1pm and return by 3pm. The hike is mild -- roughly 1 mile round trip on flat trail -- and has a fabulous view of the falls. Email Duncan [log in to unmask] to reserve a spot or with any questions!

 

 

Sunday: 

Hike to the roof of Massachusetts - take two…. We'll hike the steep roaring brook to hopper trail, 3 miles to the summit, and retrace our steps back to the trailhead!  5 hr strenuous hike - leaving campus at 11:45AM returning by 5pm. Contact [log in to unmask] to reserve a spot!!

 

Storytime x WOC Din: A Discussion of Place! Join us to eat a delicious homemade meal on Sunday at 6pm in Dodd. You’re also welcome to join us in cooking starting at 4 pm! This week, WOC Din will be partnering with Storytime to present a group discussion about place-- please come join us! Contact Charlotte, [log in to unmask] with any questions.
