WOC-ly OUTING CLUB CALENDAR 1/20 - 1/26


Hello WOC family!  Come check out some of the awesome outdoors events we have going on this week.   All events are open to WOC members. For more information on how to join WOC, ask your trip leader or head on down to the equipment room.


Announcements:

 

THERE WILL BE NO WOC PE CLASSES ON 1/20 IN ORDER TO CELEBRATE MARTIN LUTHER KING JR DAY.  CONTACT DAVE AT DA1 WITH QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS.

 

WORK WITH KIDS AS A WILLIAMSTOWN RURAL LANDS OR HOPKINS FOREST EDUCATOR:  Get paid to teach, mentor, and play with kids outdoors! CLIA is hiring Hopkins Forest Educators and Williamstown Rural Lands Educators for the spring semester. All students welcome and all transportation is covered.  Check out CLIA's Education Outreach website for more information and a link to the application.

 

The Nate Lowe Climbing Wall:  Come get sendy with us!  The wall is open M & W 8 -10, T & Th 9 -11.  9 - 10 on Th is reserved for those who don’t identify as cis-gender male, from 10 -11 we welcome everyone. Come enjoy Winter Study by trying out a new boulder problem or toprope.

 

WOC Equipment Room:   The Equipment Room will be open M - F from 12 -2 pm.  Open 10 - noon on Saturday if snow conditions warrant.  Email: [log in to unmask]

 

WOC activities:


Monday:

Crafting and Hot Cocoa Consuming Workshop! Come to the Environmental Center Living Room at 8:00 pm tomorrow with whatever crafting projects you’re currently working on! Also bring a mug for hot cocoa! Our goal is to stay as cozy as possible on this chilly winter night. If you have a ukelele, it’s highly encouraged that you bring that as well :) Email Alex arp2 with any questions or crafting/hot cocoa ideas!

 

Wednesday:

Kayak Rolling Session 7:30 - 9:00 Come by the indoor pool to learn the basics of kayaking! Learn the basics of kayaking including forward paddle strokes and rolling a full 360 degrees. Open to people of any or no experience. Contact Jackson at [log in to unmask] if you have questions!

 

Thursday:

Midweek Stroll: Join us for a midweek hike/microspike/snowshoe (weather dependent) up through the Stone Hill trails close to campus. We will leave from the WOC office at 1:30 pm and return to campus by 3:30. Contact Charlotte cgj1 to reserve a spot!

 

Friday:

Weekly sunrise hike wake up and down Pine Cobble (witness sunrise at 7:22am) Meet on Paresky steps at 6:00 AM.  Dress for the chill and snowy trail,  bring extra layers, headlamp, filled water bottle and a cup for hot drinks.  Return to campus by 8:30AM. Beginner Climbing Night: Never been to the climbing wall? Only been a couple times? Want to try rock climbing? WOC is hosting an introductory night at the wall! There will be Instructor-Monitors there to help belay, teach basic skills, and keep everyone safe. This event is beginners-only, completely free and all equipment will be provided. Beginner climbing night will take place from 8pm-10pm this Friday, January 20th in the Towne Field House. Please reach out to Duncan ([log in to unmask]) with any questions or concerns.

 

 Sunday:

WOC Din: Everyone is welcome to join WOC members for cooking and a vegetarian meal on Sunday! Join us in Dodd Kitchen at 3:30 to cook or at 6 for a scrumptious meal! No previous WOC experience necessary; email Charlotte cgj1 with questions or suggestions. 

 

Trip to Prospect Mountain Cross-Country Ski Area Third and final trip!  W.O.C. is providing van transportation to Prospect Mountain each Sunday during Winter Study. Vans depart Chapin at 8 AM and return by 12 PM.  A trail pass for Williams students is $10.  Rentals are available in the W.O.C. Equipment Room and must be picked up on Friday between 12 - 2 PM.  (Prospect also has rentals available for a $10 fee for our group). To sign up, fill out this form by noon on Friday.
