WOC-ly OUTING CLUB CALENDAR 1/13 - 1/19


Hello WOC family!  Come check out some of the awesome outdoors events we have going on this week.   All events are open to WOC members. For more information on how to join WOC, ask your trip leader or head on down to the equipment room.


Announcements:

 

WORK WITH KIDS AS A WILLIAMSTOWN RURAL LANDS OR HOPKINS FOREST EDUCATOR:  Get paid to teach, mentor, and play with kids outdoors! CLIA is hiring Hopkins Forest Educators and Williamstown Rural Lands Educators for the spring semester. All students welcome and all transportation is covered.  Check out CLIA's Education Outreach website for more information and a link to the application.

 

Williams Climbing Club (WCC) and WOC Reel Rock Film Showing: Join us on January 17th for a free showing of Reel Rock 14, a celebration of climbing through film. This year's Reel Rock features three short films: The High Road, about Nina Williams's highball bouldering; The Nose Speed Record, documenting Alex Honnold and Tommy Caldwell's quest to climb El Cap as fast as possible, no matter the cost; and United States of Joe's, exploring a clash of cultures between locals and climbers in rural Utah.

Dead Week Trip: Adirondack Winter Sampler - Come stay in the gorgeous Adirondacks during dead week (2/2-2/4) and enjoy the winter woods while staying in a cozy (heated) cabin at night. Day activities may include snowshoeing, sledding, snow fort building and nordic skiing. We will have a beginner day trip as well as a more advanced option and encourage people of all levels of winter outdoor experience to come along! The Nate Lowe climbing wall:  Come get sendy with us!  The wall is open M & W 8 -10, T & Th 9 -11.  Th from 9 - 10 is reserved for those who don’t identify as cis-gender male.  Th from 10 -11 we welcome everyone. Come enjoy the new year by trying out one of our new boulder problems or brand new routes

 

WOC Equipment Room:   The Equipment Room will be open M - F from 12 -2 pm.  Open 10 - noon on Saturday if snow conditions warrant.  Email: [log in to unmask]

 

WOC activities:

Monday:

Stargazing at Stone Hill: Meet at Paresky Steps at 8:00 pm to walk to Stone Hill. Bring a blanket and a cup for hot drinks. We will settle in for a bit at the top of the hill for the best stargazing spot on campus. Contact Alex arp2 with any questions!

 

Tuesday:

Fruit Dehydrating: Grab some of your favorite fruits from the dining hall and come down to the equipment room at 9am to learn how to use the dehydrator. Apples and bananas are delicious but feel free to experiment with other fruits too. Email hll2 to sign up or with questions. 

 

Wednesday:

Midweek Stroll: Join us for a midweek hike/microspike/snowshoe (weather dependent) up through the Stone Hill trails close to campus. We will leave from the WOC office at 2:00 pm and return to campus by 3:00. Contact Charlotte cgj1 to reserve a spot!

 

Kayak Rolling Session 7:30 - 9:00 Come by the indoor pool to learn the basics of kayaking! Learn the basics of kayaking including forward paddle strokes and rolling a full 360 degrees. Open to people of any or no experience. Contact Jackson at [log in to unmask] if you have questions!

 

Thursday:

Cheese Excursion: Come to Cricket Creek Farm Thursday morning to volunteer and wrap cheese at this small local creamery. There may even be a cheesy reward for your efforts. Space is limited so email Gavin at [log in to unmask] to sign up. Trip runs 9:00 - 11:30. 

 

 

Friday:

Weekly sunrise hike wake up and down Pine Cobble (witness sunrise at 7:22am) Meet on Paresky steps at 6:00 AM.  Dress for the chill and snowy trail,  bring extra layers, headlamp, filled water bottle and a cup for hot drinks.  Return to campus by 8:30AM. Trip to Prospect Mountain Cross-Country Ski Area Keep your fingers crossed - snow is in the forecast! W.O.C. is providing van transportation to Prospect Mountain each Sunday during Winter Study.  Vans depart the Paresky steps at 8 AM and return by 12 PM.  A trail pass for Williams students is $10.  Rentals are available in the W.O.C. Equipment Room and must be picked up on Friday between 12 - 2 PM.  (Prospect also has rentals available for a $10 fee for our group). To sign up, fill out this form by noon on Friday.
