WOC-ly OUTING CLUB CALENDAR 11/18- 11/24


Hello WOC family!  Come check out some of the awesome outdoors events we have going on this week.   All events are open to WOC members. For more information on how to join WOC, ask your trip leader or head on down to the equipment room.


Announcements:

 

Beginner climbing night this Friday! Learn to climb in a fun and supportive environment! Scroll down to FRIDAY for more details.

 

WOC financial aid is available for BEGINNER students interested in learning to ski or snowboard during our Winter Study Ski & Snowboard J-Term PE Class programming ONLY. Please contact [log in to unmask] with your name, class yr and ID#  to register for financial aid BY DEC. 6, 2019!  Three day ski passes, class instruction and rentals are covered under financial aid for BEGINNERS only!

 

Open climbing on Thursday afternoon:   Open to all members of the Williams community.  No WOC membership required. Come to the climbing wall on Thursday afternoon from 2-4 and be part of a PE instruction course. We need learners of all ages and abilities (preferably beginner) to join this class and learn from student PE instructor candidates.  No experience or special equipment is necessary, just a willingness to be taught about climbing and a desire to learn. Space is limited, please email Dave at da1 with questions or to register.

 

Become a ski or snowboard patroller this winter study!  Round two winter study registration is coming!  If you got dropped from your winter study or want to try something new, sign up for SPEC 22 to learn to ski patrol!  Learn to be proficient in first aid skills, toboggan handling and mountain maintenance, and become prepared to join the Williams ski and snowboard patrol!  We ski for free when volunteer patrolling at Jiminy Peak. Both skiers and snowboarders are welcome. Contact Annabelle (asf5) with questions.

 

HUNTING SEASON!!

Deer (rifle & shotgun) season has begun in Vermont AND New York:  VT11/16/19 - 12/01/19 NY 11/16-12/08

*if going into the nearby woods…Be aware and A-wear bright colors

 

MA begins 12/02 - 12/14 (no hunting allowed in MA on Sundays!)

 

The Nate Lowe climbing wall:  Come get sendy with us!  The wall is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8pm - 10pm (Thursdays from 8-9pm reserved for people who don’t identify as cis-gender male.  All climbers are welcome from 9-10).  

 

WOC Equipment Room:   The Equipment Room will be open M - Th 12:30 - 1:30 pm & F 12 - 2 pm Email: [log in to unmask]

Wednesday: 

Fruit Dehydrating @ WOC Equipment Room

Bring any fruit of your choice to the equipment room (walk past the Paresky mailroom and go down stairwell on the right) and make some tasty treats! Fruit will be provided, but feel free to bring some more! Join us at 4 PM! Any questions? Email Georgia at [log in to unmask]

 

Thursday: Hike to Cascade Falls! Join us for a short hike to Cascade Falls to see a beautiful waterfall. The total hike is 2 miles on flat ground along a beautiful stream. We will leave from the WOC Office at 2:30 pm and return to campus by 5:00. Please email, Charlotte [log in to unmask] if you are interested!

  

Friday:

Weekly sunrise hike wake up and down Pine Cobble (witness sunrise at 6:52am) Meet on Paresky steps at 6:00 AM.  Dress for the chilly weather, Bring a headlamp,  filled water bottle and a cup for hot drinks. Return to campus by 8:30AM.   Contact Scott, [log in to unmask] if you have questions.

 

Beginner Climbing Night! - Never been the climbing wall? Only been a couple times? Want to try rock climbing? WOC is hosting an introductory night at the wall complete with snacks, including pizza. There will be Instructor-Monitors there to help belay, teach basic skills, and keep everyone safe. This event is beginners-only, completely free and all equipment will be provided. Beginner climbing night will take place from 8pm-10pm this Friday, November 22nd in the Towne Field House. Please reach out to Annabelle ([log in to unmask]) with any questions or concerns.
