WOC-ly OUTING CLUB CALENDAR 09/30- 10/06


Hello WOC family!  Come check out some of the awesome outdoors events we have going on this week.   All events are open to WOC members. For more information on how to join WOC, ask your trip leader or head on down to the equipment room.


Announcements:

 

Selling Mountain Day Shirts! Mountain Day shirts for sale at Paresky from 11:30am-1pm. Shirts are $10 cash or venmo. There’s a limited supply so get them now!

 

Mountain Day Drivers Wanted: We’re looking for 12-passenger van certified drivers to help us out on Mountain Day! Drivers must be available from 9:30-5 on October 4, 11, and 18th and will be able to take part in Stone Hill and Stony Ledge festivities. Drivers will also get free Mountain Day tee shirts! Mountain Day Accessibility Van Deadline: If you are interested in participating in Mountain Day events on Stone Hill or Stony Ledge and have a documented accessibility need, please email Charlotte (cgj1) by WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 2. Mountain Day is about so much more than activities on Stone Hill or Stony Ledge, but if you would like to participate and have a documented accessibility need, please sign up as soon as possible. Spots are limited and cannot be guaranteed if you do not sign up before Mountain Day, so sign up now!

 

With 35 years of experience, Overland offers 45 itineraries for students, 10 days of training for leaders, and excellent support throughout the summer. The Nate Lowe climbing wall is OPEN!  Monday - Wednesday from 8pm - 10pm.  The wall will be closed Thursday 10/3 for training

WOC activities:

Monday:

Polar Bear Plunge! Has academic life at Williams completely drained you? Are your eyes vacant and soulless? Try to recapture the feeling of being alive by jumping into a river! This is a perfect bucket list item and a great way to keep awake while finishing that problem set. Meet on Paresky Steps at 10pm on Monday night. Be sure to bring a towel, warm layers, and something to swim in! Contact Aidan at [log in to unmask] with any questions.

Tuesday:

Slacklining!  Want to ignore your homework and practice balancing yourself instead of your workload?  Come slackline outside Morgan at 4pm on Tuesday! All are welcome whether you’ve never gotten on a slackline before or want to show off your flips.  You only need to bring yourself and song requests. Contact Annabelle (asf5) with question. No sign up necessary.

 

Overnight to the WOC Cabin! Start your week off right with an overnight to the WOC Cabin Tuesday night in Hopkins Forest! Meet at the Equipment Room (lower Paresky) at 8:30pm. Bring or borrow a sleeping bag, sleeping pad, headlamp, water bottle, and a backpack to put it all in. Also bring playing cards and ukeleles if you have them! We’ll return to campus by 8:15am. Please sign up ahead of time with Alex [log in to unmask] to reserve a spot!

 

Thursday:

Kayak Rolling Session 7:30 - 9:00 Come by the indoor pool to learn the basics of kayaking! Learn the basics of kayaking including forward paddle strokes, turning a kayak with and without a paddle, and rolling a full 360 degrees. Open to people of any or no experience. The Climbing Wall will be closed 10/3 for training.

Friday:

MOUNTAIN DAY?? Listen for the “ringing email and ringing bells!!”

 

IF not Mt. Day - Weekly Sunrise hike to the summit of Pine Cobble (witness sunrise at 6:53am) Meet on Paresky steps at 6:00 AM.  Dress for the weather,  Bring a headlamp, filled water bottle and a cup for hot drinks.  Return to campus by 8:30AM. Sunday:

Canoeing at Sherman Reservoir, VT  Leaving campus at noon and returning by 4:30pm.  A great fall paddle on a beautiful small lake! Sign up with Charlotte at cgj1@williams.edu to reserve a spot by thursday, 10/03.

 

Hopkins Forest Fall Festival -- Noon till 3:00!

Come out and celebrate changing leaves, crisp air and autumn in Hopkins Forest -- cider pressing, cross-cut saw, shake splitting, beam hewing, an active bee hive, music, contra-dancing, apple butter brewing, goodies, and general fun.  Vans from Paresky (every 15 or 20 minutes, Park St. side).
