WOC-ly OUTING CLUB CALENDAR 10/22 - 10/28


Hello WOC family!  Come check out some of the awesome outdoors events we have going on this week.   All events are open to WOC members. For more information on how to join WOC, ask your trip leader or head on down to the equipment room.


Announcements:

 

Are you ready to join the most un-burr-leiveable committee ever? Do you only have ice for a sleigh ride? Want to chill and get frost-tea together? Join the Winter Carnival Planning Committee and help us plan the BEST day of the school year!!!! Requirements: happy can-do attitude, must be on campus during Winter Study and the first few weeks/weekends in February. Send your interest to Abbey Minondo (alm5) and help make Winter Carnival brrrrrilliant!!!

 

Apply to be a WOOLF 2019 Student Director! Sophomores and juniors with previously involvement with WOOLF are eligible to apply. Application attached below this message - due November 2. Contact Leonard Bopp (lwb1) or Stef Hernandez (emh5) with any questions.

 

Free Solo at Images Cinema: The National Geographic documentary on Alex Honnold’s ascent of 3000 ft. El Cap without a rope is playing at Images Cinema from 10/26 - 11/1.  Watch this amazing feat from the safety of a movie seat.  $6.00 admission with Williams student ID.

 

WOC Equipment Room:  The Equipment Room is open M-Th 12:30-1:30, & F 12-2.  We have tons of gear to borrow! WOC memberships may be purchased as may Mt. Day or Bamboo T-shirts. Email [log in to unmask]

The Nate Lowe Climbing Wall remains closed:  Due to renovation work in the Field House there will be no indoor climbing until future notice.  However, outdoor climbing trips will continue to be available (weather dependent). Keep an eye on the outing news and updates for details.

 

WOC activities:

TODAY - Thursday:

The Williams Bookstore featuring adventure author: J. R Harris on October 25th at 6:30 PM presenting his new book Way Out There, an account of his extraordinary exploits while backpacking in some of the world’s most tantalizing places. And after almost fifty years of wilderness travel, “J. R.,” as he’s known, has plenty of tales to tell! His stories are by turns funny, tragic, and uplifting, and are all told in his down-to-earth, friendly style. Books will be on hand for sale and signing. Don't miss this special event.


Friday:

A REAL Sunrise Hike (sunrise at 7:20 am) - follow the Golden path of Fall colors to the summit of Pine Cobble.  Meet on Paresky steps at 6:00 AM.  Dress for the weather, trail will be slick, muddy and wet!  Bring a water bottle, headlamp/flashight and a cup for hot drinks.  Return to campus by 8:30AM. Chase A Waterfall! Start your weekend with a trip to the beautiful Tannery Falls! Meeting at 1pm at the WOC office for a short drive and hike, before returning around 4pm. Contact Duncan, dhm2 to sign up and/or with any questions!

Saturday:

Outdoor Climbing Trip:  Location to be determined by experience and enthusiasm. We can go to Farley Ledge, Rose Ledge, or Chapel Ledge depending on interest and sign-ups! Meet at the WOC Equipment Room at 9 am and return by 5 pm.  Email ads4 with questions, to sign up, or to request a destination!


Sunday:

Family days “ after the sunrise” hike up Pine Cobble. Meet on Paresky steps at 8:50 AM.  Dress for the weather - bring along OR send along your folks, siblings, visiting relatives etc..  Return to campus by Noon. Contact Scott, [log in to unmask] if you have questions!
