WOC-ly OUTING CLUB CALENDAR 04/19- 04/21

Hello WOC family!  Come check out some of the awesome outdoors events we have going on this week.   All events are open to WOC members. For more information on how to join WOC, ask your trip leader or head on down to the equipment room.


Announcements:

Williams-Mystic invites you to celebrate Earth Day by joining us for a beach cleanup and open house

*Free transportation and free lunch provided*
Where: Williams-Mystic campus
When: 11:30 am–4:30 pm, Sunday, April 22
Transportation: Meet the bus at the circle behind the '62 Center no later than 8 am. You'll be back by 8 pm.

Jennifer Phar Davis, Hiker, Author, Adventure speaker: In 2011, Jennifer covered the 2,185-mile Appalachian Trail in forty-six days, eleven hours, and twenty minutes, maintaining a remarkable average of forty-seven miles per day. By doing this, she claimed the overall (male or female) fastest known time on the “A.T.” and became the first woman to set the mark. Jennifer will be

coming to Williams to share her stories of adventure and endurance on Wednesday, April 25 at 7:30pm Paresky Auditorium, co-sponsored by WOC and Athletics.

Climbing: The Nate Lowe climbing wall will be open 8 -10 pm M - Th.     8-9 pm on Thursdays are reserved for people who do not identify as cis-gender males 9-10 pm on Thursdays and every other night is open and welcome to all.

WOC Equipment Room:  The Equipment Room will be open M - Th 12:30 -1:30, and F 12 -2.   WOC memberships may be purchased at the Equipment Room as may the ever popular WOC Bamboo T-shirt. Email [log in to unmask] with questions.

Thursday:

Polar Bear Swim: Come one come all to the green river for a quick swim! Meet at the WCMA steps at 8:30 if interested. Bring a towel.  Contact Kerry at kas6 if you have any questions!


Friday:

Sunrise (6:02 am sunrise)  3 mi Hike up and down Pine Cobble  Meet on Paresky steps at 6:00 AM.  Dress for the weather -.  Bring a water bottle and a cup for hot drinks.  Return to campus by 8:30AM. Contact Rosa, [log in to unmask] if you have questions!


Saturday:

Farm Bike Tour: Come on a biking tour Sweet Brook and Cricket Creek Farms, before returning to the Environmental Center to talk with Stina Kutzer from Gammelgarden and enjoy an array of local breakfast treats and skyr. Meet on Paresky steps at 9am. Contact Louisa ([log in to unmask]) to sign up and indicate if you need to borrow a bike and/or helmet!


Overnight 101: Want to learn or practice basic skills for overnight camping? Join T, Rosa and Jackson for a few short workshops starting at 5:30pm on Saturday in the WOC Equipment Room, and ending by 7:00 or so, but leave whenever you want. Topics covered include tent and tarp-setup, basic navigation, and cooking and storing food, among others. No experience or WOC membership necessary. Please RSVP by emailing Jackson at jse2, so we have some idea of numbers.
