SUMMER JOBS!!!

Work at Hopkins Forest this Summer! HMF is  hiring Caretaker Interns for this summer.  Work outdoors amid lush greenery -- taking care of the gardens, trails, grounds, research areas, splitting wood, clearing vegetation, running small machines and more. Christodora’s Manice Education Center - Savoy, MA

Summer Ecology Program Director (July 2018):Seeking teachers or educators with a background in the sciences to lead a discovery-based, research program for high school students in July 2018. This is an opportunity to lead scientific investigations of the forested ecosystems within the 6,000-acres of Great Mountain Forest (GMF) near Norfolk, CT, where the Yale School of Forestry conducts educational research programs.   Click here to learn more…

Outdoor Educators & Outdoor Educator Assistants (Start in April, June, or September 2018)

Seeking entry level and seasoned outdoor / environmental educators who have an adventurous spirit, willingness to learn, passion for the outdoors---and enjoy connecting with urban youth.  Teach in the spring (April to early June), summer (mid June through August) or fall (Sept. & Oct.)  Apply to work in one season, all 3, or any combination!  Free certifying trainings provided: Wilderness First Aid/ CPR, Waterfront Lifeguarding—Plus professional trainings: canoe clinics, backpacking skills training trips, best practices in environmental education and youth development, and more.

Climbing:  

The Nate Lowe climbing wall will be open 8 -10 pm M - Th.  Thursday nights from 8 - 9  are reserved for those who don’t identify as cis-gender men. All climbers are welcome on Thursdays from 9 - 10 and on every other day.  


WOC Equipment Room:  

The Equipment Room will be open M - Th 12:30 -1:30, and F 12 -2.   WOC memberships may be purchased at the Equipment Room as may the ever popular WOC Bamboo T-shirt. Email [log in to unmask] with questions.



Thursday:

Polar Bear Swim! If you missed the Winter Carnival Polar Bear Swim, have no fear, we’ll be running it back this Thursday, meeting at 9 PM outside WCMA for a short walk and dip in the Green River!


Friday:

Wet wintery mix Sunrise (6:25 am sunrise)  3 mi Hike up and down Pine Cobble  Meet at the WOC equipment room, level M Paresky, at 6:00 AM.  Dress for the weather - lots of layers, hat and gloves.  Bring a water bottle and a cup for hot drinks.  Return to campus by 8:45AM.  Contact Scott, [log in to unmask] if you have questions!


Saturday:  

Walk at your own pace on the Ashuwillticook trail in Cheshire.  This is an easy walk, accessible to all, on a paved rail trail along Cheshire Reservoir.   Bring your camera or sketch pad.  Views of Mt. Greylock and sunset over the reservoir.  Leave campus at 4 pm and return by 6:30.  Contact Dave Ackerson at da1 with questions or to reserve a spot.


Sunday:

Money Brook Falls hike! Intermediate 8 mi hike via the AT  - take 2!! Leaving campus at 12:30pm return at 4:30pm.  Contact Scott, [log in to unmask] to reserve a spot!
