Hello WOC family! Come check out some of the awesome outdoors events we have going on this week. All events are open to WOC members. For more information on how to join WOC, ask your trip leader or head on down to the equipment room.


Announcements:  

Williamstown Rural Lands job opportunity!

Are you interested in working with kids? Do you like spending time outdoors? Are you okay getting your feet a little dirty? If this sounds like you please consider applying to be an outdoor educator at Sheep Hill. This is a paid position where you help plan and lead an after school outdoor program for elementary aged children. The program runs for five Wednesdays (April 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th and May 2nd) from 1-4pm. Any questions please contact Lindley Wells (lew1)

Green Corps Job Opportunity: Green Corps is a major training program for environmental organizers, with nearly 400 graduates at work in the environmental movement. They’re hiring now for the 2018-2019 program. Students can apply at greencorps.org.  The final spring application deadline is March 15th.


Movie presentation by film maker Dave Fraser, “Stories from the Slopes: A Skiing History of Western New England.”  The one-hour film will screen in the Bronfman Auditorium Friday, March 9 at 7pm.  There will be a Q & A immediately following the conclusion of the screening.  Free and open to the public, sponsored by the Mount Greylock Ski Club and the Williams Outing Club

The 2018 Snowshoe National Championships will be held at Prospect Mt. Nordic Ski Center in Woodford, VT March 9-11.  Go to 2018 US Snowshoe Nationals for more info.  Volunteers needed!  Contact Silvia Cassano at [log in to unmask] to sign up.

Film Festival at Bennington College:  The  Winter Wildlands Backcountry Film Festival will be held at Tishman Hall at Bennington College Saturday, 3/10, at 7:30 PM.  Tickets $10/ $5 on sale at the door (cash only) or online at batsvt.org/bcfilmfest

Climbing:  

The Nate Lowe climbing wall will be open 8 -10 pm M - Th.  Thursday nights from 8 - 9  are reserved for those who don’t identify as cis-gender men. All climbers are welcome on Thursdays from 9 - 10 and on every other day.  


WOC Equipment Room:  

The Equipment Room will be open M - Th 12:30 -1:30, and F 12 -2.   WOC memberships may be purchased at the Equipment Room as may the ever popular WOC Bamboo T-shirt. Email [log in to unmask] with questions.


Thursday:

Kayak rolling pool session!  Want to learn how to roll a kayak 360 degrees (you’ve all got the 180 degree roll down!) come to the college pool at 7:30pm - no experience necessary!  Bring a bathing suit - see you there! Contact Alex at afs4 with questions.


Polar Bear Swim! If you missed the Winter Carnival Polar Bear Swim, have no fear, we’ll be running it back this Thursday, meeting at 9 PM outside WCMA for a short walk and dip in the Green River!


Friday:

Snowshoe Sunrise (6:13 am sunrise)  3 mi Hike up and down Pine Cobble  Meet at the WOC equipment room, level M Paresky, at 6:00 AM.  Dress for the weather - lots of layers, hat and gloves.  Bring a water bottle and a cup for hot drinks.  Return to campus by 8:45AM.  Contact Scott, [log in to unmask] if you have questions!

Saturday:

Sledding in the fresh snow!
Join WOC at 10:30 AM on the golf course for some sledding and snowyaking (snow-kayaking)! We will meet in the Taconic Golf Course parking lot at 10:30 and sled until 12:30 or so. Feel free to come and go as you choose. Sleds will be provided, come dressed for cold and wet snow! If anyone needs to check out winter gear (hats, mittens, etc.) the equipment room will be open briefly from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM Saturday morning. Maplefest!  Hopkins Forest – 11:00-2:00  Come out to celebrate spring and learn about maple sugaring in Hopkins Forest!  Visit our sugarhouse, see the evaporator in action, tap a tree, collect some sap, check out traditional boilers, exhibits and video, eat a pancake, try sugar-on-snow, take part in a maple taste test!  Shuttles from Paresky (Park Street).
