WOC-ly OUTING CLUB CALENDAR 11/27- 12/03


Hello WOC family! Come check out some of the awesome outdoors events we have going on this week. All events are open to WOC members. For more information on how to join WOC, ask your trip leader or head on down to the equipment room.


Announcements:  

HUNTING SEASON!!  Hopkins Memorial Forest CLOSED from 11/27 - 12/12 (open for hiking on sundays)

Deer (rifle & shotgun) season has beGUN in Massachusetts: 11/27/17 - 12/12/17 (no hunting allowed in MA on Sundays!)

*if going into the nearby woods…Be aware and A-wear bright colors

New York deer hunting continues  until 12/12

 

The High Mountain Institute's Apprentice Program informational session on Wednesday, November 29th, at 6PM in the Career Center. HMI offers college graduates the unique opportunity to explore teaching both traditional academics and wilderness education in Leadville, Colorado. As an instructor on multi-week backpacking expeditions and an assistant teacher in a high school classroom, you have the opportunity to positively impact your students while earning invaluable personal experience. You'll mentor students as a cabin head on our residential campus, lead activities, and collaborate with your peers in a graduate level seminar on educational theories over the course of the semester. Join the Winter Carnival Planning Committee!

Are you on campus this Winter Study? Would you be interested in organizing Winter Carnival this year? Join the planning committee! If you are bursting at the seams with excitement and ideas, email gg5 for more information. All class years are encouraged to join.


Climbing:

The Nate Lowe climbing wall will be open 8-10 pm M-Th.  Thursday nights from 8-9 are reserved for those who don’t identify as cis-gender men. All climbers are welcome on Thursdays from 9-10 and on every other day.


WOC Equipment Room: The Equipment Room will be open M & T 12:30 -1:30.  WOC memberships may be purchased at the Equipment Room as may the ever popular WOC Bamboo T-shirt, now in new colors. Email [log in to unmask] with questions.


Thursday:

Kayak rolling pool session!  Want to learn how to roll a kayak 360 degrees (you’ve all got the 180 degree roll down!) come to the college pool at 7:30pm - no experience necessary!  Bring a bathing suit - see you there! Contact Alex at afs4 with questions.


Polar Bear Swim!

It’s just about cold enough to be a true polar swim, so come enjoy a refreshing dip in the icy waters of the Green River. The water will be very cold and indoor warmth is about a 5 minute walk away. Clothing is optional, but definitely bring a towel! Meeting on Paresky steps at 9 PM, contact Glen at gg5 with questions.


Friday:

Another REAL Sunrise (7:04 am sunrise)  3 mi Hike up and down Pine Cobble . Meet on Paresky steps. at 6:00 AM.  Dress for the  chilly weather, bring a headlamp/flashlight, a water bottle and a cup for hot drinks.  Return to campus by 8:45AM.  Contact Scott, [log in to unmask] if you have questions!


Saturday

(Almost) Full Moon Hike!

Meet at Paresky steps at 10:00pm on Saturday for a nightly hike up Pine Cobble under the moonlight.
