WOC-ly OUTING CLUB CALENDAR 9/11 - 9/17


Hello WOC family! Come check out some of the awesome outdoors events we have going on this week. All events are open to WOC members. For more information on how to join WOC, ask your trip leader or head on down to the equipment room.

Interested in Leading Trips for WOC?

We would love to have you!

To find out how you can lead trips and help others enjoy the outdoors in a variety of ways, please send the following information to Max ([log in to unmask]):

1) Your Name

2) What kind of trip you are interested in leading? (ex. Day hikes, overnights, multi day backpacking, canoeing, climbing, etc.)

3) Were you a WOOLF Leader?

4) Do you have a current Wilderness First Aid certification?

Please respond ASAP to mwh4 to begin leading for WOC! Thank you!!!


Are you interested in working with kids? Do you like spending time outdoors? Are you okay getting your feet a little dirty? If this sounds like you please consider applying for one of the outdoor educator positions through the Center for Learning in Action Office. These are paid weekly positions where you will be working with elementary aged children in one of two outdoor settings- either Hopkins Forest or Sheep Hill. At Hopkins Forest you will plan and help run weekly field trips for local elementary school children and at Sheep Hill you will assist in an Wednesday after school outdoor program.

Climbing:

The Nate Lowe climbing wall will open for the academic year on Wednesday 9/13.  Regular hours going forward will be 8-10 pm M-Th.  Thursday nights from 8-9 are reserved for those who don’t identify as cis-gender men.  All climbers are welcome on Thursdays from 9-10 and on all other nights also.  

WOC Equipment Room:  Beginning 9/11 the  Equipment Room will be open M-Th 12:30 -1:30 and F 12-2.  WOC memberships ($10/student & $15/Fac -Staff) may be purchased at the Equipment Room as may the ever popular WOC Bamboo T-shirt, now in several new colors.  Email [log in to unmask] with questions.


Thursday:

Polar Bear Swim Club! Get off to a cool start to the year with our first “polar” bear swim. We’ll be meeting on Paresky steps at 9 PM for a short walk down to the Green River for a swim under the stars. Contact Glen at [log in to unmask] with questions!


Friday:

Sunrise Hike up Pine Cobble!  Meet on Paresky steps at 6AM.   Dress for the weather,  bring a water bottle and a cup for hot drinks.  Return to campus by 8:30 am.  Contact Scott, [log in to unmask] if you have questions!  


Overnight in Monroe Forest!

Interested in sleeping in a beautiful shelter in the Monroe forest? Want to spend your first night outside? Join Max and Jackson for a 3 mile walk in the woods to a shelter on friday night--We’ll be leaving at 5pm on Friday and will return by 10am on Saturday.  Beginners are welcome and gear is available for free for those who need it.  Email Max at [log in to unmask] to sign up or with questions.


Saturday:

Operation Dehydration!

Peel like raisin the roof? Want to guava good time? Saturday at 3:00pm in the Equipment Room (Paresky basement) we will be hosting a dehydration station! Bring your fruits and veggies and join Abbey, Phacelia and Dorothy in making a collection of dehydrated snacks for the week to come. All are welcome and no experience is necessary. Sunday:

Canoeing at Grafton Lake, NY Leaving campus at 1pm and returning by 4:30pm - great fall paddle and opportunity to see the first colors of the leaves beginning to turn!  Sign up with Alex  at [log in to unmask] to reserve a spot!!
